Chloe Update

I got a lot of painting done tonight/this morning. Later today, I am having tea with Tiffany at Royal/T, finishing up Chloe, and packing for Vegas!

Chloe in Progress

Chloe is going to be in a huge group show in Los Angeles in February. Also, Mildred is going to be part of an amazing box set of prints that will be available at the group show. I'm really excited to be a part of both of these things and I will post more info and images in the next couple weeks.

The background is a misty bayou and dragonflies will be coming soon.

March Group Show

Sorry for the lack of updates during the holidays! Now that we are back, I have salvaged a small painting I had tossed away before we left because I thought it was doomed for failure, but alas, a little break from painting changed my mind. Chloe will be the first redhead.

I have a couple group shows coming up around the same time as my Orphan show. One is a group show curated by Lola in conjunction with her solo show at Copro Nason.

Happy Holidays

Ara and I worked on a holiday party poster for Bob, the brains behind Baby Tattooville. Here is the poster with all the info removed. This is an edition of 50 prints on thick glossy stock (for Bob) + 10 artist proofs (for us to keep.) Paper size is 11 x 17 inches. If you are interested in one, I have put 5 of them up in my store.

Ara worked on the type and created the script from scratch!

Merry Christmas and safe new years to everyone!

Transfer

I combined the drawings of Robert and Alex as two brothers in my first large painting. There is really no final drawing for the full composition. I combined various sketches in photoshop and once I transfer this image, I will have to redraw it carefully and in more detail. This is my least favorite part! Next, I will seal the drawing with clear gesso in two-three coats, then sand it to perfect smoothness. Thank goodness for my electric sander, the board is 24 x 36 inches!

The transfer is made up of seven tabloid-sized pages taped together. Look at Sushi hiding under my easel! So cute.

Dodgeball

Local vfx & motion design houses gathered for the 2nd Annual Dodge Ball tourney in west LA. Psyop, Buck, Sway, Motion Theory, and Prologue all competed for the coveted Golden Ball of Power trophy as illustrated below. Ana and I played on Prologue's team, even though I don't work there anymore.

Anra, taken by Sean.

We were undefeated except one game with Psyop, and ended up taking the trophy (we made) home!

Frames

I'm starting to frame my paintings for my March show. Instead of custom framing, I've gotten some reproduction antique frames. This means I've had to stick with standard sizes for the most part, but a few of the paintings are odd sizes and will have to be custom framed anyhow.

The large ones.

Oh, and this is my new phone.

Picture Time!

I finally got a camera! Hopefully, I won't drop it this time.

Tonight, Ara and I stopped by the Art Center Grad Show to check out the new graduates' work (and eat the free food.) Here are some of my favorites:

Soap rings by Nancy Wu.

Part of a photograph in the student gallery. Not a graduate, and no name on display yet.

Strange video from the fine art department.

I've seen some of David Jien's drawings before and I was pleasantly surprised to see a big group of them on the front wall of the student gallery. He is also not one of the grads but his work is pretty amazing already.

P.S. Sushi wants to say hi to everyone!

Veronica

I'm kind of working on two bodies of work at once. I don't feel like the black background paintings fit in with my upcoming show, but I've been enjoying them. We'll see where this goes. I'm trying to keep myself from running off in too many directions

In progress, 9 x 12 " oil on wood.

I like how the afternoon sun is draped across her face. I wonder if I can paint that in somehow...

Bella and the Bees

She is available at my Etsy Shop.

I got my copy of James Jean's Fables Covers in the mail today. Each page includes the different stages that each piece goes through from quick thumbnails to the finish. I personally love the drawings the most, his line work is beautiful. I'm also looking forward to his upcoming show in January at Jonathan Levine Gallery, although we won't be able to make it in person.
